DXM Plateau
DXM plateau is a term used by those who abuse DXM in recreational doses, which far exceed recommended doses/ Sometimes these users describe the high they experience in different "plateaus" ranging from mild distortions of color and sound to visual hallucinations, "out-of-body" dissociative* sensations, and loss of motor control. The
third plateau is what many DXM users strive for, but ultimately can’t describe.
Shannon, 24, Talks About DXM Plateau:

"I thought that when I was under the influence of
DXM, everything was so wonderful and everything was great, and that I could enjoy things so much better. I [thought I] was a better writer, I was a better artist, I was a better everything when I was on this drug. But really, I was just diluting myself and I wasn’t a better artist and I wasn’t a better writer, you know?
"Also using the DXM led me into so many other behaviors that I would’ve never taken part in. But because it totally skewed my judgment, I ended up doing so many things I would never have done.
"I didn’t care about anything. I didn’t even care if I died. I mean, it just made me completely lose touch with reality. I was like, ‘You know what? If I get in a car accident and kill myself – whatever.’ I just totally became apathetic towards everything -- it totally killed my emotions. That’s the best way to explain it, is that once I started doing it, my morals -- my everything -- just went to the wayside. I just became this feelingless person, you know? And I was turned into, like, what I always said I hated."

*A dissociative is a drug which reduces (or blocks) signals to the conscious mind from other parts of the brain, typically to the physical senses. Such a state of sensory deprivation and dissociation can facilitate hallucinations, and dreamlike states of mind which may resemble some psychedelic mind states.
