Robo Tripping
Robo tripping refers to the
effects DXM users feel when they take high doses of cough syrup or other DXM products. “Robo” stems from the name of a common cough and cold product,
Robitussin (and because users chug Robitussin or another cough syrup to achieve their desired high.) When “Robo tripping,” some users describe different "plateaus" ranging from mild distortions of color and sound to visual hallucinations, "out-of-body" dissociative* sensations, and loss of motor control, along with other side effects such as confusion, dizziness, double or blurred vision, slurred speech, impaired physical coordination, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, rapid heart beat, drowsiness, numbness of fingers and toes, and disorientation.
Shannon Talks about Robo Tripping:

“[From Robo tripping] I would get nauseous to the point where I couldn’t even stand up. The nausea – that was the major part of it – the nausea was horrible. I would actually start foaming – it’s so gross to say – but I would get sick and start foaming from the mouth. Dizzy, nauseous, headaches – such a horrible headache, sensitivity to the light, I couldn’t even go outside – it was just all together a
horrible feeling that you would not want to do again.
When I was Robo triping I thought I was chosen from God or something – I was just out of my mind. I was just ruining myself. There were many times I came to the realization that I needed to stop. The first one is when I flipped over my car, I was under the influence. After that I was laying in the hospital and I was still tripping a little bit and I was like, ‘This has got to stop.’ The whole reason why this happened was because I was tripping.”

*A dissociative is a drug which reduces (or blocks) signals to the conscious mind from other parts of the brain, typically to the physical senses. Such a state of sensory deprivation and dissociation can facilitate hallucinations, and dreamlike states of mind which may resemble some psychedelic mind states.
