Third Plateau

A Third Plateau can occur to those who abuse DXM in recreational doses, which far exceed recommended doses. Sometimes these users describe the high they experience in different "plateaus" ranging from mild distortions of color and sound to visual hallucinations, "out-of-body" dissociative sensations, and loss of motor control. The effects at the third plateau itself tend to be very intense, and often very different from earlier plateaus. A third plateau trip can be terrifying and is often deemed “indescribable.”

Sharon Talks About Her Son's DXM Addiction and Third Plateau:
"I found out that Shawn was getting high when his personality completely changed. Now, if you would talk to him, he would say, he became clear in his thinking and he became smarter. He used to say to me, 'Mom, you know, I'm thinking on a plane way up here and you're down here and this is what DXM does for me. So, since you're not using it, you're never really gonna quite understand me anymore.' But what I saw as a parent was a complete personality change and a sweet gentle young man soon became an angry, violent, hostile person that I didn't know.

"When Shawn began to get into the serious addiction part, when he became unmanageable, when he became angry and violent, I became very scared. Not only for my son but my son was driving so if he got in an accident and hit someone or possibly killed someone, I know my son, and he would never be able to live with that. And when he became that entirely other person, that violent person, I didn't see any other choice but to try to have him arrested. And that was just to save his life."
